Rath Wood has been open to the public for many years under the coillte open forest policy. In recent years Coillte, the community and Rathwood Home & Garden World have combined to develop a range of features that will attract more people to the woods. Rath Wood is a ‘second rotation’ forest as most of the area was reforested in 2000 after an earlier or ‘first rotation’ crop was removed when it reached maturity in 1999. Regular visitors will be able to chart its progress over the coming years as it’s once again produces timber for a variety of uses, initially for pulpwood, fuelwood and fencing products.
